On February 12, 2018, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released their FY2019 budget estimate to Congress. The Commission is requesting $333,118,000 in budget authority, a decrease of 6% from the FY2018 continuing appropriations FCC budget. The Commission specifically referenced E-rate in their budget estimate requests and stated that the FCC Chairman has “….publicly communicated to USAC his concerns about cost overruns and schedule delays surrounding the implementation of information technology supporting the E-rate program, and USAC is working to make improvements….” The FCC further stated that the Commission “….will oversee USAC’s remediation of these problems and USAC’s administration of this program in a manner which is transparent and accountable….”
