On January 24, 2018, the National Coalition for Technology in Education and Training (NCTET), a Washington, D.C.-based nonpartisan coalition of leading education associations, nonprofit groups and corporations, hosted a 20th anniversary of E-rate celebration in which Funds For Learning was a proud sponsor of the important event. Senator Markey (D-MA) was honored along with retired Senator John Rockefeller (D-WV). The Senators were the main proponents and sponsors of the E-rate program during the debate to include schools and libraries in the expansion of Universal Service while the nation’s telecommunications laws were being updated in 1996. FCC Commissioners Rosenworcel, Clyburn, and Carr were also in attendance. Each spoke eloquently about the importance of high speed broadband connections at our nation’s schools and public libraries to close the digital divide.
