The Senate voted today, February 7, 2017, to confirm Betsy DeVos as the next Secretary of U.S. Department of Education. Many educators are concerned she lacks the necessary experience, knowledge of education policy issues and proper vision to lead this critical agency. Ms.DeVos supporters argued that she has been a tireless advocate for education and school choice and will implement the necessary reforms to help increase academic performance. While the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) oversees the E-rate program, the U.S. Department of Education guide districts on how to spend critical federal dollars and can impact how dollars are spent on technology to help students learn in today’s high tech environment.
