On June 3, 2016, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released the draft Eligible Services List (ESL) for Funding Year 2017. Comments to the draft ESL were due July 5, and a number of stakeholders provided comments to the Commission.
Funds For Learning suggested that the phase-down of support for voice service be suspended for FY2017, effectively retaining the 40% reduction that is in place for FY2016. FFL implored the Commission to initiate “further discussion regarding the phase-down of support for voice service,” and noted that the phase-down is creating financial hardships for schools across the country.
Other commenters suggested changes to the Eligible Services List, including the addition of advanced network security equipment, denial-of-service prevention, mobile data service to school buses, mobile data service for key school personnel, content filtering, and redundant connections.
