On February 16, 2016, PBS NewsHour partnering with Education Week focused a segment of their programming on the digital divide and how rural school districts still have a difficult time with getting high speed connections. The segment specifically highlighted rural communities in Mississippi and how some of the new E-rate reforms can help these districts get the necessary fiber they require in order to help their students get on the digital superhighway. Many rural districts continue to use outdated textbooks because of the lack of Internet bandwidth.
