On July 24, 2015, the FCC approved the merger of AT&T and DIRECTV. The approval of the merger has a number of requirements and restrictions, one of which requires AT&T-DIRECTV to offer gigabit service to any E-rate eligible school or library located in areas where AT&T-DIRECTV deploys Fiber to the Premises (FTTP.) The requirement is estimated to affect approximately 6,000 applicants across the country.
