The Schools, Health & Libraries Broadband Coalition (SHLB) released a report detailing the progress of the FCC’s National Broadband Plan five years after its initial release. The SHLB progress report is specifically tracking the fourth goal set out by the Commission:
“Every American community should have affordable access to at least 1 gigabit per second broadband service to anchor institutions such as schools, libraries, hospitals and government buildings by the year 2020”
The report acknowledges that while progress has been made over the last five years, “the next five years will be even more difficult than the previous five years…” The reforms to the E-rate program will help spur the investment needed to reach this goal. The SHLB report can be viewed here.
