While it is clearly important for the SLD to issue funding commitments in a timely fashion, and the SLD has issued commitments at a much quicker pace for Funding Year 2014, at the end of the day funding disbursements are what really make an impact on the budget for E-rate stakeholders.
On August 8th, 2014, the SLD reached the $2 billion disbursement milestone for FY 2012. According to our analysis, here is the disbursement breakdown by service category:
- Telecommunications: $1.151 billion
- Internet Access: $426.2 million
- Internal Connections: $356.8 million
- Basic Maintenance: $68.6 million
For FY 2012, the $2 billion disbursement milestone was reached 25 months after the start of the funding year. For comparison, here are the dates when the SLD reached the $2 billion disbursement mark for FY 2009 through 2011.
