The FCC has announced a new strike force to monitor waste, fraud and abuse in the Universal Service Fund programs, including the Schools and Libraries E-rate program. Former federal prosecutor Loyaan Egal will be leading the strike force, which FCC Chairman Wheeler said will be dedicated “to protect the Integrity of the Universal Service Fund.”
According to the news release from the FCC today, the strike force “will promote future compliance, protect those who depend on the funds for access, and safeguard contributors to the funds from the unlawful acts of others. “
