On May 9, 2012, the FCC released a Notice of Suspension and Initiation of Debarment Proceeding against Jonathan Slaughter. Slaughter, owner and president of E-rate Consulting Services (ECS), LLC pled guilty to “committing fraudulent activities associated with the E-rate program” on September 29, 2011.
From May 2006 through January 2009, Slaughter violated E-rate program rules by converting approximately $892,000 in E-rate funds for personal use without his clients’ knowledge. Slaughter deposited checks payable to 6 schools and 14 school districts located in 13 states into an ECS account. Instead of releasing the funds to his clients, Slaughter “kept the money and used it largely for [his] personal expenses.”
Slaughter was sentenced to 51 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
