The Schools and Libraries Division announced September 6 that it will be issuing another $37 million worth of funding commitments next week in 228 letters to applicants. That comes on top of the $17.4 million in commitments it issued two weeks ago, bringing the total committed so far for the 2002 funding year to close to $800 million.
There was still no word on the fate of requests for internal connections from applicants eligible for a discount rate of 80 percent and above. However, in the SLD's official minutes of its August 28 vendor call, it said that while it was 'still too early to tell whether we will be able to fully fund requests at 90 percent, it appears that we are closer to that goal than previously thought."
SLD officials said that they would not be able to make any Priority Two commitments until at least late September, and did not yet know how many waves of commitments it would take to complete the process.
The SLD also announced that with the start of the regular school year, it would begin enforcing its policy requiring a certain level of response from applicants when reviewers attempt to establish contact. Details of those policies are posted here.
