The Schools and Libraries Division announced July 26 that it was releasing another $45 million worth of funding commitments for telecommunications services and Internet access for the 2002 funding year.
SLD officials have said they do not expect to approve requests for internal connections until mid-September at the earliest. The SLD is currently reviewing requests for support from applicants at the 90 percent discount rate, but has not yet rejected requests from applicants eligible for discount rates between 81 and 89 percent.
The latest wave includes 600 funding commitment letters. The pace of funding commitments has slowed in recent weeks as many schools moved into their summer vacation periods.
