The Schools and Libraries Division announced July 28 that the E-rate discount-rate threshold for approved internal connections requests dropped in the latest wave from 85 percent to 83 percent.
In the 16th wave, the SLD issued commitment decision letters worth $234.3million, almost nine times the amount of committed in the previous weeks. That brings the total funds committed to over $1.3 billion, 58 percent of the $2.25 billion funding cap. The average funding commitment for the wave was $471,428.
The threshold for internal connections could drop lower as the SLD continues to review applications. However, the division has said it will not drop below 81 percent.
The SLD said it expects to issue several large waves in August.
