The Schools and Libraries Division said Sept. 3 that it had committed $81 million in the latest, ninth wave of E-rate funding commitments to nearly 1,000 applicants. That brings the total committed in the 1999-2000 funding year to $666 million, or about 30 percent of the total the Federal Communications Commission has approved for the current funding year.
SLD officials have indicated that they expect it will take them until mid-October to distribute all of the funding commitments for the current year.
The SLD is continuing to approve internal connections requests for those applicants with discount rates of 65 percent or higher. In the latest wave, about equal amounts were approved for internal connections and the Priority One services, telecommunications services and Internet access.
