On September 8, 2016 the State Education Technology Director’s Association (SETDA) released a report titled, The Broadband Imperative II: Equitable Access for Learning. The SETDA report was released at a Capitol Hill briefing where key policy makers were in attendance. FCC Commissioner Rosenworcel would like to see how the E-rate program can support closing the “homework gap” where students are unable to complete daily assignments due to lack of broadband access at the home.
The four main recommendations are:
- Increase Infrastructure to Support Student-Centered learning;
- Design Infrastructure to Meet Capacity Targets;
- Ensure Equity of Access for All Students Outside of School;
- Leverage State Resources to increase Broadband Access
