The members of the Schools and Libraries Committee of the Universal Service Administrative Company's Board of Directors have been chosen for the coming year.
Joining the committee as a representative of schools will be Dr. Douglas Christiansen, commissioner of education for the state of Nebraska. He will replace the Rev. William Davis of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
David Baker, vice president of law and public policy of EarthLink, Inc. in Atlanta, will join the committee as service provider representative. Baker is a new member of the USAC Board. James Jackson, regulatory attorney for General Communications Inc., and previously a member of the USAC Board, will join the committee as an at-large member.
In addition, two members of the USAC Board were newly designated as "observers" to the Schools and Libraries Committee. They were Bridget Duff, director of education policy for Cox Communications, Inc., in Atlanta and Karen Buller, president and CEO of the National Indian Telecommunications Institute in Santa Fe, NM. Robert Rivera, who previously served as an observer on behalf of the service provider community, steps down from the USAC board.
Dr. Brian Talbott, executive director of the American Association of Educational Service Agencies, and Anne Bryant, executive director, of the National School Boards Association, continue to serve as board members representing the education community, and Anne Campbell of the National City Library in California continues as the libraries representative.
Cheryl Parrino, CEO of USAC, is scheduled to resign at the end of January. Her replacement has not yet been named.
