E-rate Hearing Rescheduled to June 17

The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s hearing on the potential for waste, fraud and abuse in the E-rate program has been rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. on June 17. The committee postponed the hearing for eight days after the death of former President Ronald Reagan.

Earlier this week, the Federal Communications Commission’s Office of Inspector General released another semi-annual report that was critical of the program and its administration. USA Today also published a series of stories about the program, including one that focused on the E-rate discounts that had been awarded in Puerto Rico, which had been expected to be the focus of the committee’s initial hearing. The witness list for the June 17 hearing has not yet been released.
