On June 12, 2018, Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Dean Heller (R-NV) sent a letter to the Senate Committee Chair and Vice Chair of the Committee on Indian Affairs requesting a hearing on their Tribal Connect Act. Senators Henrich and Heller jointly introduced the bill on December 7, 2017 and are still waiting to have a hearing on this legislation. There is a companion bill that was introduced in the House on April 27, 2018 that currently has four cosponsors. The bill would establish a $100 million Tribal E-rate pilot program for broadband access in Indian tribes without libraries.
