On May 20, the FCC released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) seeking comment on several proposals that could change current E-rate processes. As a result, Funds For Learning has submitted comments on the FCC’s proposals concerning the regulatory structure of the E-rate program. The NPRM contained numerous proposed changes aimed at streamlining the E-rate application process and expanding broadband access in the classroom. The NPRM included proposals to eliminate the technology plan and Form 470 filing requirements for applicants who are already subject to state and local procurement and tech planning requirements, simplify the discount calculation, establish funding caps based on student population, and adjust the annual funding cap to account for inflation. Funds For Learning’s comments on the FCC’s NPRM regarding the regulatory structure of the E-rate program can be viewed here. While the deadline for comments was July 9, there is an opportunity for you to post reply comments if you choose to do so. Upon your review of our comments, if you are in agreement and wish to support our response you may submit reply comments until July 26. Reply comments can be submitted here.
